Exploring the world one furniture item at a time: The Tunnels Series

Ever wondered how you can explore the functionality of a furniture item? The Tunnels Series challenges you to interact with each element that shapes new perspectives. Imagined by Noga Berman as a series of furniture that encompasses the whole body as an exploring mechanism, the chair, lounge bed and seats forming this collection all house the possibility of exploring the furniture itself and your interaction with it.

Based on the idea of creating private places within household furniture, the items were designed by Noga Berman as a playground for adults: “I searched for hiding places within the house, observing children playing “hide and seek” and looking at illustrations in children’s books. I examined dark and private places that can contain the human body (for example: under the bed, behind a curtain, under a hat).

The lounge can be used for relaxation, but it can also be storage for sheets, blankets and pillows; the wooden box seats can also store book, but the ultimate piece is the metal tube with wrapped elastic bands chair. This one challenges the user to “examine his relationship with his environment and shape it to his choice” by entering into the tubed chair and gaining a new perspective.
