Kosha is a Sanskrit term meaning “sheath” or “vehicle of awareness”. In Indian philosophy it is used to differentiate the “five sheaths” that envelop the pure awareness of being or the genuine Self, in contrast to the ego.
Designed by Claudio D’Amore, the Kosha Reading Space is an innovative, original and decidedly different concept. More than a luxury piece of furniture, Kosha is a meditative space, a sort of protective sheath.
The Kosha Reading Space exceptional consists of 33 strips of wood machined one by one then assembled by hand with a watchmaker’s precision in Switzerland. 10 niches provide spaces to store one’s favourite books, always within easy reach. With its pure, enveloping aesthetics and shapely lines drawn to embrace harmoniously the body’s curves, Kosha combines a strong and timeless design with faultless ergonomics.
Born in Switzerland of Italian parents Claudio D’Amore (34) was raised in a multicultural environment. His first creative pieces were produced at the age of 13, when he spent most of his time in his father’s workshop, making all sorts of objects from recycled materials.
In 2000 he graduated in product design from the University of Art and Design (ECAL), recognised as one of the best design schools in Europe. He then set off for London to work with the renowned designer Ross Lovegrove. In 2004 he returned to Switzerland and, aged only 28, established cosanova, a design studio specialising in luxury timepieces and objects.
Tag Heuer, Montblanc, Van Cleef & Arpels, Parmigiani, Hautlence and Concord are just some of the 15 prestigious brands which the studio and its four designers count among its clientele. His work is soon crowned with success and rewarded with international prizes.
