Antonin Scalia has died at the age of 79. The Associate Supreme Court Justice was found dead at a luxury ranch in West Texas on Saturday. He was on a hunting trip at the time at the Cibolo Creek Ranch, according to local KVIA News:
“An El Paso source close to Justice Antonin Scalia tells ABC-7 that the 79-year-old died in his sleep last night after a day of quail hunting at Cibolo Creek Ranch outside of Marfa, Texas. The Justice did not report feeling ill and retired to his room after dinner.”
Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott released a statement Saturday confirming Scalia’s death, calling Scalia “a patriot” and an “unwavering defender of the written Constitution and the Rule of Law.”
The conservative Scalia had served on the Supreme Court since 1986 and was appointed by President Ronald Reagan. Scalia was born in 1936 and attended Harvard Law School.
Cibolo Creek Ranch is a 5 star resort known for outdoor activities, including hunting, horseback riding and fishing. It was converted from a military fort by a 19th-century cattle baron and occupies 30,000 acres of a volcanic caldera cupped by the Chinati and Cienega mountains. According to reviews, everything at Cibolo is first-class, authentic, and memorable, including meals featuring international flavors based on ancient Mexican culinary traditions.
