Zooey Deschanel And Tommy Hilfiger’s Capsule Collection To Debut At Macy’s

To Tommy, From Zooey! That’s such a cute and atypical name for a capsule collection especially when it is designed by a renowned fashion designer and a popular actress. Tommy Hilfiger and Zooey Deschanel have teamed up to announce an exuberant spring capsule collection.

Comprising of 16 dresses inspired by the sixties, the collection is dominated by Tommy Hilfiger signature colors. All set to debut at Macy’s this spring, the flirtatious range of feminine outfits will be a centerpiece of Macy’s ‘American Icons’ campaign. WWD gives details of the collection, stating that it includes ‘several shirtdresses, for example, as well as peekaboo numbers featuring prints inside pleats. Piqué and oxford cloth, as well as silks and linens, are among the fabrics. The overall aesthetic merges Mod with nautical, or “Modical” as Deschanel, who named each dress after a friend, described it.’

Tommy Hilfiger seems to be in awe of the doe-eyed actress, as Zooey reminds him of Audrey Hepburn for her sense of humor and her sophistication. He also praised her by stating, “She is very bright and very funny, and really down to earth, the girl next door. At the same time, she has a Jackie O type of chicness to her.” Speaking about the collection in details, he mentions, “They are Sixties-inspired short dresses. There is a lot of red, white and blue, but done in a Zooey way with interesting detail and flirty fabrics. They are very Jean Shrimpton and Twiggy — really from the Sixties in London. That’s not something we would normally put in our regular sportswear line — maybe we’d be inspired by the Sixties for the runway, but it’s a new way to look at fun, American classics.”

The 34-year-old American actress, who is also a musician and singer-songwriter, has turned to fashion designing with the launch of the new collection. The New Girl actress encapsulates her experience of her new role as well as the collections as, ‘“I am a fashion fanatic, and I am always looking for new ways to incorporate vintage, feminine pieces into my own wardrobe. Tommy and I share many of the same inspirations — old-school music, classic films and old Hollywood icons — and his guidance during the design process helped to put a really unique twist on each piece.”

Priced between $98 and $199, fourteen fresh and feminine dresses from the collection will launch at 200 Macy’s stores in April. This will be followed by a launch of the entire collection on April 21 at Tommy Hilfiger anchor and specialty stores in North America, Europe and Japan and also at Tommy.com. Select Tommy Hilfiger stores will also carry Deschanel-designed jewelry and handbags.
