In Hong Kong, Lot No. 519 might appeal to more than just wine lovers at Christie’s September 2011 wine auction. The winning bidder will not only receive six bottles of 100-year-old Moet & Chandon champagne packed in a Louis Vuitton leather chest — they will also win a lunch date with Scarlett Johansson.
Moet & Chandon, which currently retains Johansson as a celebrity endorser, came up with the brilliant idea.
“Who wouldn’t want to have lunch with Scarlett Johansson? She’s a big fan of champagne and for me, a fantastic tie-in,” Charles Curtis, head of wine for Asia at Christie’s said. “A lot of people will support it for so many angles – it appeals to a broad audience. It helps us get outside of our usual group of wine clients,” he adds.
The lot is estimated to be worth $48,700 to $64,100. The proceeds of the auction will go to the Nature Conservancy in China.
