Visiting Valencia soon? If so and you’re a wine connoisseur, we’ve got a tasty surprise shaped like the future. In other words, one of Valencia’s busy shopping streets – Calle Colón – is decorated with a fantastically modern Wine Shop completed by Valencia-based architectural practice Fran Silvestre Arquitectos in 2014. The Vegamar Selección Wine Shop will astound you with its luminous interiors and wine selection.
The recently opened shop was imagined as a showcase space for both the quality of the products and their design. Straight, sleek lines following the contour of the space flaunting a table in the middle compose the perfect background for a dynamic interior design. The use of materials and contemporary design lines allowed the space to embrace the wine bottles and accentuate their simple existence.
Within such a sophisticated spaces, laminated parquet flooring lead your steps deep inside, guiding your eyes towards the bottles lined on the walls. Black lacquered MDF panels contrasting the illuminated ceiling gives off an elegant, piano-reminiscent vibe: “Dark, glossy panels were chosen for vertical surfaces. Due to their tone and reflections, they blur the spatial limits of the establishment, making it seem bigger than what it really is. The color of this material also refers to the color of the displayed wines. These vertical surfaces lodge storage space and allow for a regularisation of the available geometry. The back of the wine bar contains backlit furniture, which along with the upper mirror optically doubles the perception of space.”
Behind the clear glass doors, the entrance part of this space was dedicated to presenting wines coming from the Vegamar wine cellar. The back of the contemporary shop – a space double in size as the entrance – was left open and inviting for wine tasting. Photographed by Diego Opazo, this eye-catching shop design might look as a simple space at first glance, but it’s art and science combined, actually.
