Travel Destination: The Point, Saranac Lake

The Adirondacks have been a luxury vacation destination for over a century. Today there are countless wonderful properties in the region that continue the tradition. One such is The Point resort at Saranac Lake in upstate New York, which was once one of the ‘great camps’ of William Rockefeller.

The Point is located in the mountains on a 10-acre peninsula on Upper Saranac Lake. You get the expected Adirondack furnishings in a setting the revives the 19th century the luxury experience of yesteryear. You’ll find eleven different room layouts in four different buildings, each with stone fireplaces, private baths, antique furnishings, and a tranquil location that can rarely be matched. The designs are rustic, but never lacking in amenities.

Activities are not problem at The Point. Hiking, boating, fishing, biking, camping, horseback riding and golf are readily available. You can also find water skiing, swimming, tennis, sunset cocktail cruises, picnics, volleyball, backyard croquet, horseshoes, and badminton as well. In the winter, The Point is perfect for snowshoeing, skiing (both x-country and downhill), skating, ice fishing, or for a simple getaway. And, of course, the changing of the colors in the Fall is not to be missed.

The Point aims for peace and quiet (no TVs in the rooms!).

The Point has it’s own top-notch restaurant, plus extensive spa services.

All in all, the Point is ‘roughing it without the roughing it’ – and should not be missed.
