The latest must-have in the Chinese luxury sector isn’t a car, isn’t a piece of jewellery and isn’t a bottle of wine; in fact – it’s not even a product at all. It’s a Tibetan mastiff. The 82kg (180lb) dog is shaggy, fierce and loyal and has proved not only a hit with the Chinese wealthy elite, but inevitably with animal breeders. One man who saw the potential in the market was You Wenfa who bought his first Tibetan mastiff in 1990. He now owns 40 and travels back to Tibet each year to find more pedigree dogs. He also offers breeding sessions, charging up to 100,000 Yuan ($14,650) for a single outing, and sells pure breeds for up to 300,000 Yuan (43,950) each. – From Luxury Insider
