Casio will be celebrating its 20th anniversary by releasing a limited run of 300 stylish analog watches. These watches will belong to the company’s high-end MR-G line which incorporates durable and beautiful materials (scratch-resistant titanium, sapphire crystal) to make elegant and long-lasting watches. Casio is known for creating relatively inexpensive and tough watches, but the MR-G line is the company’s way of saying that “rugged” and “luxurious” are not necessarily opposing concepts.
The new Casio, dubbed “The Hammer Tone,” will be similar to the company’s other MR-G watches in that it will feature accurate GPS timekeeping and hardy, water-resistant casing. The watch has a busy but sophisticated face, reminiscent of something James Bond might wear. The Hammer Tone differs, however, in the materials used and the method of production. The watch features metal bezels that have been individually hammered by hand using a method similar to that used in decorating traditional Japanese armor. The case includes striking accents in a warm, gold-copper alloy that offsets the cool, gunmetal grey of the rest of the watch. The Hammer Tone is expected to be available for purchase at selected North American jewellers by July of 2016. Each of these handmade and unique luxury watches will be priced at $6,200 USD.
