The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance continues to be the granddaddy of all car shows in the United States, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t several others worth visiting. Case in point, you’ll want to put the upcoming Elegance at Hershey on your calendar.
Taking place next weekend June 10 through 12, the event is a celebration of fine cars for great causes – and the founders hope to raise thousands of dollars for JDRF, the AACA Museum, and AACA Library & Research Center. In addition to The Elegance on Sunday, a juried event that will feature some of the finest examples of custom-coachwork Classics and unique sports/ racing and special interest vehicles with historical importance produced prior to 1960, there are several other events worth attending.
The Grand Ascent, modeled after the Goodwood Festival of Speed, takes place on Friday and Saturday and competitors will be driving mostly pre-war cars sanctioned by the Vintage Sports Car Club of America. If you’re interested in riding along in one of the cars, you can purchase a ticket for just $50.
The Concorso Bizarro brings more than a little levity to the weekend’s festivities. Featuring wacky and weird cars it’s a great counterpoint to the vintage Duesenbergs, Cords, Packards and more that will be displayed on the lawn at The Elegance.
It wouldn’t be a vintage car event without an auction so on Saturday, June 11 from 1–5, the newly formed Finest Automobile Auction company will present 50 desirable vehicles for sale. Included in this auction are a wide range of interesting vehicles from classics to more modern sports cars. You’ll find everything from a 1923 Hupmobile to a 2000 Ferrari 550 Maranello. Other interesting cars on the docket include a 1932 V16 Cadillac Fleetwood, 1940 Lincoln Continental, 1933 Rolls-Royce Phantom II, 1938 Mercedes-Benz 540K and a 1939 Bentley Mark V. Visit their website to see the full listing and register to bid.
Saturday night there’s a gala dinner to raise money for their charities as well as a silent auction featuring a wide range of items donated by Mario Andretti, Brooks Brothers, Chopin Vodka, D&S Cigars, Movado Watches, and many others.
The Elegance at Hershey is one of the top five car shows in America. If you’ve got time next weekend, we highly recommend getting to central Pennsylvania for this event.
