The Fine English Company is a Heritage lifestyle brand conceived by Benedict Wormald after a lifetime of sourcing unique and artisan pieces during his career in the City. Benedict was concerned about the decline of traditional artisanal skills such as gunmaking, tailoring and shoemaking and saw them as timeless and less subject to the vagaries of fashion.
“I found existing brands too polished and artificial in aesthetic, they did not represent a truly elegant way of living in Great Britain- form and function intertwined, designs and materials that have remained unchanged for 150 years and still serve uncompromised.”
Benedict does not come from a conventional interiors background and consequently his solutions and creativity is borne out of a genuine love of traditional country pursuits such as Polo, Shooting, Hunting and Fishing. “If it is British and Bespoke- we will undoubtedly be able to make it- there is no limit to our capability”
Concerned about the trend for conspicuous consumption and adornment, Benedict has set out to pare luxury right down to its basic principles- elegant simplicity. This has resulted in one of the world’s most exclusive interior design companies sourcing from The Fine English Company and an enviable client portfolio – he considers the company guardians of British style & identity, with a commitment to the survival of these skills for future generations.
The Fine English Company’s values sit favourably with many, and the brand has secured the loyalty of ambassadors from Russian Oligarchs to rock and International royalty. A close working relationship with some of the most established luxury organisations in the world includes Harrods, Holland & Holland, Aston Martin Racing, Cirencester Park Polo Club, Bentley, William Evans Gunmakers, Beaufort Polo Club and Camp Kerala at the Glastonbury Performing Arts Festival in the United Kingdom.
“We are pushing the boundaries of creativity and quality- many clients are overwhelmed when they see our product as it is so unique and flawlessly executed”
Recent commissions have included the Burchells Zebra Safari Chair based on a classic wing chair but refined further. The carved ball and claw legs and frame took close to 2 years to finalise with the finest craftsmen alive today. The chair features a beech wood frame, horsehair stuffing, hand stitching and a canvas interlining. Benedict calls it “the absolute pinnacle of English Handmade furniture,” noting, “there is absolutely nothing comparable anywhere in the world.”
