The “Maestro” ring by jewelry designer Leon Megé is a rather amazing piece for music lovers. Megé has transformed a musical experience into a statement piece, winning him a 2013 Bronze A’Design Award. The ring takes a year to complete and isn’t just a ring, it’s a complete homage to the experience of listening to records.
The “Maestro” ring is handmade with sterling silver, 18k gold, black diamonds, white diamonds and white Carrera marble in the form of an old-fashioned gramophone The fun detail is that it also features interchangeable records made of black ebony wood. The miniature records that accompany the ring are custom made with tiny, colorful gemstones to fit a client’s personal music taste and are fastened with an 18k gold stud. A ring like this is meant to be admired as much as it is worn and it comes with a sterling silver platform that displays the ring and finishes the overall look of a gramophone.
Megé was born in the Cold-War Soviet Union and is the child of two scientists. He began his career as a bench jeweler in a state-owned factory in St. Petersburg. He moved to New York where he found a job as a bench jeweler in the Diamond District and was later invited to work with famed designer Henry Dunay. He launched his own brand in 1996 and now delights clients the world over with his designs.
Leon Megé will receive the Bronze A’Design Award in Como, Italy on April 14, 2013. See more of his beautiful designs at www.artofplatinum.com.
