Opera companies have had a tough time in recent years. The arts often suffer during recessions and opera has been particularly hard hit. So here’s to raising money in a unique and beautiful way.
Each year the Lyric Opera of Chicago hosts a live auction to raise funds for their productions. The 2015 auction on February 7th features the 2015 Bottling of SONG™, a special wine bottled at Hall Wines in Napa. The special edition is a limited release of 100 etched magnums and one six-litre selection will be auctioned off.
The wine is a 2012 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon bottled in Napa Valley at Hall Wines exclusively for Lyric and features a blend of fruit from Hall’s Sacrashe Vineyard and historic Bergfeld Vineyard. The wine is described as rich in dark berry and cassis flavors and it will age for 15-20 years.
“This wonderful collaboration with Lyric Opera of Chicago offered us the opportunity to give a new voice to our vineyards,” said owner Kathryn Hall in a press release. “It has allowed us to combine our passions for winemaking and the arts to produce a wine that truly awakens the senses.”
Etched and hand painted at Bergin Glass in Napa Valley and presented in handsome wood boxes, the magnums will be available for $1,000 each beginning January 7 and may be purchased by calling the Lyric Opera Women’s Board office at (312) 827-5682.
