Adidas, long known as a purveyor of sportswear and running shoes (remember Sambas?), has upped the ante with their new line of casual wear, SLVR. You won’t find any neon windbreakers here, having been replaced with sleek, tailored pieces with a touch of futuristic flair, and shoes that would look more at home in the boardroom than on the treadmill.
The SLVR men’s collection is a mélange of modern pieces updated in classic fabrics and silhouettes, woolen bomber jackets, snugly knit sweaters and down parkas in unexpected colors are paired with trendy tees and dress shirts. SLVR women’s is a far cry from sportswear of yore, featuring flattering knit skirts, leather blazers, chunky sweaters and sophisticated dresses in grey, black, khaki with an occasional pop of cobalt blue to break up the neutrals.
Never a company to gloss over the importance of footwear, Adidas kept the bar set high for the SLVR shoe collection. Women’s shoes run the gamut from shiny silver high tops to lace up wedge booties, and for once men have just as many options as women when it comes to a good shoe: high tops, low tops, and beach moccasins, all in distinctly updated versions of their old selves.
The lovely folks at Adidas – and the visionary designer behind SLVR, Dirk Schoenberger – have created a simple yet innovative collection chock-full of surprising details (zippers and draw strings and pockets, oh my!) and creative takes on traditional casualwear.
