Simplicity and functionality can become a powerful duo when used by creative minds. To exemplify this, Café Ato in Seoul brings together these two elements in a surprising interpretation. By renovating the annex in the existing building of Metro Seoul newspaper, architects of Design BONO revived this urban corner and offered travelers a serene place to enjoy good conversation and drinks. Placed in a quiet area of old downtown Sinmunro, the intriguing cafe near Gyeonghui Palace attracts its clients with a stunning facade showcasing a stone cage wall – what is surprising about it is the way stones seem to levitate, creating an attractive display that compose an unforgettable visual identity.
Inside the cafe, guests enjoy a chic modern design, with light cubes protruding through the ceiling to illuminate the neutral color palette. Keeping the same balance of colors and natural materials seen outside, the interior displays wooden furniture and furnishings that deepens the idea of naturalness. There is also a VIP area where people can be comfortably interviewed for the newspaper, a kitchen area and serving hall, as well as a bathroom that displays a highly contemporary design.
