Director Ridley Scott is apparently intent on bringing back the world of ‘Blade Runner’ to the big screen. Scott, directed the classic original, which starred Harrision Ford, in 1982. He will direct the new film, as well as produce, along with partners Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove.
The original ‘Blade Runner was not a financial success, but the cryptic, intelligent and noirish approach to science fiction has been embraced by fans and critics over the past three decades. It is now considered one of the classics of the genre.
No word on what approach Scott and his team will take toward the film – will it be a remake, a prequel, a sequel – we don’t know. The advantage is that Scott and his producers aren’t just in this for money. So we expect something special – at least in concept.
No word on why Scott wants to revisit the ‘Blade Runner’ world, but he is in the process of making a pseudo-‘Alien’ sequel (Scott directed the original), titled ‘Prometheus’. Perhaps the revisiting of ‘Alien’ has sparked his creative juices.
No release date has been announced.
