You know that book, “Why French Woman Don’t Get Fat”? Well, I still can’t figure that out since my French diet hasn’t really been working for me that way. I have completely submerged myself into all the baguette eating, macaroon tasting and of course wine drinking. I have been also introduced to a few new things that I must admit at first seemed a bit scary. One of them is tartare aller-retour, that raw beef dish that just doesn’t look appetizing no matter how many nicely grilled potatoes you put beside it. However, since it originated in France in the early 20th century and I have been trying to be as “French” as I can, I knew I had to just go for it. Oh, and of course I am trying to be a luxurious French person and tartare is a total luxury! Speaking of French luxury…let’s get to the elephant in the room- snails. This delicious escargot has earned the title of the most “French” food out there. French delicatessen you say?? Ok, give me! Oh, boy. That one was a hard one to mentally overcome. Let me just say I felt more French then ever after that tasting.
There are also less simple foods that have become a bit too often of an occurrence in my life. Like the sandwich croque-monsieur (or croque-madame if you put an egg on top). It is one of the common street foods here and it might not look great but boy is it tasty! Ok, so my jeans are tighter but that’s what all that walking around Paris is for.
I can’t speak about my French diet and not mention my favorite of all- cheese. Yes, it’s as simple as that. Good old cheese is still what makes me happy at the end of the day. Like I said, I am far from being “that skinny French girl”. And if it means I have to give up cheese and wine then I am not sure if I ever want to be one anyhow.
