Blending modern architecture with a traditional environment is always a challenge. Architektur Steinbacher Thierrichter answered this provoking task when building a very controversial project. This open space bar in Marau, Austria is an addition to a tavern dating back to the 13th century. It is clear to anyone with an aesthetic eye that the materials used contrast the local architecture. And yet, some consider the project daring and perfectly fit for the location.
This open space cafe-bar in Marau, Austria consists of an elevation of a highly intriguing design. The added volume seems to float over the garden and is said to offer spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
The hybrid technology used to build the structure involved the connection of wood and steel, two regionally significant materials. However, the overall result is a gray cantilevered volume that really stands out, and this is not necessarily a good thing in this particular historic neighborhood. Some consider this a lovely piece of architecture, but placed in an unsuited location.
As far as the interior design is concerned, the arrangements are highly contemporary, providing a refined space for having coffee in the morning, or a delightful meal, surrounded by some of the best landscapes Murau has to offer.
