Nok Nok Thai Eating House is a contemporary restaurant envisioned by Giant Design and located in Sydney, Australia. “Not another Thai restaurant” was the idea behind the project and the developers did their best to achieve an original interior for this new dining unit, one that would stand out and compete with major niche restaurants in Sydney.
The project borrows its name from the owner’s and literally translates into “little bird”. This concept was taken further in order to create the logo of the restaurant.
With a design that inspires both intimacy and a close connection to the outdoors, Nok Nok Thai Eating House seems to give away a welcoming atmosphere. The entire appearance of the unit was based on a Thai Temple theme: “With a fairly loose brief we set about researching all things Thai, searching for those elements that were both uniquely Thai, and underexposed here in Sydney. After intensive research it seemed the only remaining architectural archetype not yet re-imagined in the Thai restaurant scene, was the Thai temple, all shining white marble and gold mosaics. The simple palate of off white marble, Corian, gold and silver mirror, and gold Alucabond is used to maximum effect to create the contemporary Temple“.- the architects explained.
