Whiskey maker Stillhouse has released a new spirit to take us back to the Prohibition-era – Moonshine.
The aptly named whiskey is made in Culpeper, Virginia, where it is charcoal-filtered and distilled four times in a Prohibition-era copper pot still. It is 80 proof, all-natural, and gluten-free.
It is a clear corn whiskey, and has a smooth, mellow and elegant taste, with a warm sweetness of unrefined raw sugar.
Some whiskey fans might find it too smooth and mellow. The distillation process has sapped Moonshine of its hardcore ‘whiskiness’ – making it smoother and more refined than your typical whiskey.
So if you’re looking for an excellent mixing whiskey – or a whiskey without too much kick, Moonshine might be just for you.
