Mercedes-Benz has hinted at an S Class with plug-in hybrid for several years. Now, it appears those rumors are about to become reality when Mercedes introduces the S500 Plug-in Hybrid, it the model will be known, at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show in September.
Reports indicate that the CO2 figure of the S500 Plug-in Hybrid will be 70g/km in order to better the 71g/km figure of current lowest CO2 emitter in the luxury segment, the Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid. Economy is expected to be above 90 mpg.
The vehicle will be powered by a V6 engine working in concert with an electric motor. A battery pack which will be installed in the trunk so cargo capacity will be slightly lower than on the regular model.
No word on pricing or when the new model will hit the showroom, but analysts expect late 2014.
