The creative team at studio Battersby Howat Architects have designed an impressive nature retreat in an island near Vancouver, Canada. Resembling a large tree house, the unusual crib was built on a steeply sloped terrain and overlooks a private beach.
The cabin-like retreat consists of two levels: “One third of the space within the house, made up of guest rooms, an office and the main entrance, is located at the lower level adjacent to the base of an existing one story rock embankment. The overhanging mass of the building and its canted wall defines the main entrance and creates a covered space for unpacking and packing – a familiar cabin ritual associated with those important moments of arrival and departure. ” A stairway ensures access to the upper floor, where the private areas (children bedrooms and master bedroom) are located. Terraces ensure great views in all directions and perfect relaxation spots.
