Is the rapper poised to moved from dabbling in design to becoming a fashion mogul? The success of his recent Louis Vuitton sneakers probably makes it inevitable, as West is not one to rest on his laurels – musically or anything else.
Fashion show front row fixture and rapper Kanye West, who just recently designed a Louis Vuitton sneaker that promptly sold out, has taken the next step toward industry domination: styling a major photo shoot for Elle magazine. First, there were the shoes. So brightly red that you really couldn’t miss them, Kanye’s €760 (RM3,800) sneaker collaboration with the world’s biggest luxe brand Louis Vuitton hit markets in July and sold out in no time. And now, whether the fashion world likes it or not (Kanye is mainly known for his attitude), it looks like one of America’s best-known rappers and producers is becoming an industry force to be reckoned with. His current “internship” at US retailer Gap prompted rumours of a potential design collaboration, there are more rumors regarding a Nike Air Jordan sneaker West is said to have in the making, and Fashion Week Daily confirmed Aug 6 that Kanye has just completed styling a photo shoot for US Elle’s October Personal Style issue. – From Sun2Surf
