Known for his personal and eclectic sense of style, American actor Johnny Depp will be honored with the Fashion Icon Award by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). Depp will be the first male recipient to be presented the CFDA Fashion Awards in the category.
There is no questioning the bold and daring attitude of the actor when it comes to making fashion statements. In the past, his many red carpet appearances gave an impression that he was walking the John Galliano or Jean Paul Gaultier runways with his hat designs, waistcoats and layers of clothing styles.
Along with Depp, the CFDA has also named the nominees, honorees and host for the 2012 CFDA Fashion Awards. The award ceremony will be a part of a yearlong celebration of the CFDA’s 50th Anniversary and will take place at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall in New York June 4.
“This year, as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the CFDA, we can see what a critical role the CFDA Fashion Awards continue to play in our efforts to promote American Fashion,” said Steven Kolb, CEO of CFDA.
“This year’s nominees truly represent the important influence of American design. We look forward to once again honoring the best and brightest talent working today,” he further mentioned.
