For the first time since 1970s a major painting is being allowed to leave Iran. The painting titled “Mural on Indian Red Ground” by famous U.S. artist Jackson Pollock is on loan to The Tokyo National Museum of Modern Art. The museum is celebrating Pollack’s 100th birth year with an exhibition titled “Jackson Pollock: A Centennial Retrospective”. The painting which is valued at $250 million was originally purchased by Empress Farah the wife of Iran’s Shah Pahlavi in 1976. Since the Shah of Iran was overthrown in 1979, the painting was in possession of the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art. –
