Summer is here and so is the urge to camp out in the open! Let’s take a look inside the world’s first ever carbon-fibre caravan which has been designed to lure well-heeled campers to head out in style. Global Caravan Technologies, GCT, a luxury RV and specialty vehicle innovator, has released first photos of the interiors of its revolutionary CR-1 Carbon travel trailer. Till date, many carbon-fiber cars have hit the roads, but this is the first time a 35-foot long twin-axle RV will be towed as a giant carbon-fiber motor vehicle.
The luxurious exterior is complemented by elegant interior that boasts of a custom leather wrapped ceiling, carbon fiber walls, private jet-type leather soft touch walls and residential furnishings. Designed to cater to the whims of various campers, GCT’s first floorplan unfolds with a comfortable seating arrangement for eight in the rear entertainment lounge.
The press release also states that modular solid surface tables with mobile marine pedestals allow for multiple dining, entertainment, and workstation configurations, or outdoor entertaining. L-shape custom leather sofa is matched with a beautiful end table and styled overhead cabinets. Stretching the definition of luxurious tailgating, the CR-1 Carbon’s custom lounges can be extended to be transformed into a theater on the rear end.
A master bedroom suite includes two dressers and three wardrobes. The optional glass ceiling feature will allow campers to gaze at the sky and count the stars without stepping out of the comfort zone! Decked with designer residential carpeting, the cozy bedroom is also surrounded by handcrafted leather upholstering. The carbon fiber bed frame brings the core element of the whole vehicle inside the bed chamber too.
Furthermore, the kitchen is well-designed to accommodate expansive countertop space and an optional wine rack.
Even the bathroom is designed to render a feeling of a luxurious apartment. A full walk-through master bath suite sits in between the kitchen and the master bedroom. The 36″ custom shower beautifully blends solid surface, designer tile, and carbon fiber.
Sporting a green feather, the production CR-1 will ride in at about 6,000 pounds which is estimated to be about half as much as a traditional RV of this size. This will help to boost fuel economy by 100 percent to 150 percent. Also the body and monocoque are completely bonded with no screws or fasteners, which also makes the CR-1 one of the stiffest trailers available.
Autoblog reports that the production model will be shown in the fall, and sales will begin in the first quarter of 2015. However that doesn’t stop us from mentioning that the production version will start at around $170,000 and the top end model will be fully customized for $770,000.
