In orbit is a large scale installation designed by Tomás Saraceno. The ambitious project, recently assembled at the K21 Stäendehaus Museum, in Düsseldorf, aims to make visitors explore a surreal world, where they can move freely within the transparent installation, that looks like a gigantic spider web. The intriguing installation, suspended above the piazza of K21, is accessible on three levels. Those who are brave enough can explore the multi-layer web on all these three levels, which connected between them through air-filled PVC spheres, with diameter up to 8.5 meters. Viewed from below, it looks like the people are simply floating in void space.
The cloud-like landscape is an inspiration for artists, engineers, architects and even biologists. It’s like a sea of clouds, you get to explore, a surreal landscape that facilitates a new hybrid form of communication. “When several people enter the audacious construction simultaneously, their presence sets it into motion, altering the tension of the steel wires and the intervals between the three meshwork levels. Visitors can coordinate their activities within the space, and are able –- not unlike spiders in a web –- to perceive space through the medium of vibration.” The installation can be admired and explored until September 7th.
