A Rum for Celebrating
If Champagne is for the moment the final whistle blows, Mount Gay’s new Exceptionally Aged Collection is for the hours after, when the party’s slowed down, and the stories start. The world’s oldest running rum distillery just released its first-ever age-stated expressions: Exceptionally Aged 15 and Exceptionally Aged 25, both distilled, aged, blended and bottled at the Mount Gay Distillery in St. Lucy, Barbados, without added sugar or flavoring.
Exceptionally Aged 15 traces back to former Master Blender Jerry Edwards, who distilled and matured it in ex-American oak bourbon casks before it passed through former Master Blender Allen Smith and into the hands of current Master Blender Trudiann Branker, who finalized the blend in 2025. Exceptionally Aged 25 goes back even further — distilled in 1999 under Edwards and aged a full 25 years exclusively in ex-bourbon casks.
Expect butterscotch, vanilla, orange zest and a touch of sea salt from the 15-year, while the 25-year unfolds into raisin, toffee, roasted nuts and gingerbread with a silky finish. Both are strictly limited: 4,942 bottles of the 15-year at $90, and just 2,376 bottles of the 25-year at $199.
