Utah-based High West Distillery has been making some great (and interesting) spirits for ages. High West will find and blend whiskeys to create something totally their own. Their lineup of rye whiskey is one of their strengths. That includes their new product – the High West Double Rye!
Double Rye is a blend of two different ryes. The first is a 2-year old whiskey that is 95% rye and 5% barley malt. The second is a 16-year old whiskey that is 53% rye and 37% corn.
The result is an amazingly unique whiskey. High West Double Rye! is one of the spiciest whiskeys you’ll ever find. Some tastes that jump out include cloves, cinnamon, caramel and butterscotch.
Despite the mix of spices, Double Rye! is surprisingly smooth. Our tasters enjoyed Double Rye neat, but also with a little water – or even better, a single ice cube.
Double Rye! is not for every whiskey drinker – but we recommend it, even just a satiate your curiosity.
