Harley-Davidson continues its plans to capture a wider range of motorcycle riders with the introduction of the new Low Rider and SuperLow 1200T. Both bikes are lighter and less expensive than Harley’s famed road beasts, making them more attractive to new riders.
The SuperLow 1200T is low-slung and easy-to-handle (Harley notes it will appeal to shorter riders as well as women). It uses the Evolution 1200 V-Twin engine, and has some nice touring features, including a detachable windshield and saddle bags.
Other features include a 4.5-gallon teardrop fuel tank, a new 2-into-1 exhaust, a new chrome air cleaner cover emblazoned with the words “1200 Sportster”, a chrome headlamp visor, chrome speedo and chrome rear turn signal bar, and a new black and chrome timer cover.
The cost begins at around $12,000, making it a nice bike for those looking for the touring experience.
The other new biker, the retro Low Rider, is back after a five-year hiatus. The Low Rider is a reprise of the popular 70s model. It is classic, simple Harley-Davidison.
As with the SuperLow 1200T, the Low Rider has been crafted to be comfortable for riders between 5’1″ and 6’1″, making it attractive to a wide range of riders.
Key features include classic Harley five-spoke cast aluminum wheels, chunky mag wheels, Twin Cam 103 engine, two-tone paint options, a new 2-into-1 exhaust (which produces the iconic Harley throaty rumble), and a black console with a speedo and tach mounted on the Low Rider’ classic Fat Bob tank.
The Low Rider starts about $14,000.
The release of the Low Rider and the SuperLow 1200T comes in the wake of the introduction of Harley’s new Street models and community-driven Rushmore models.
