French wines from the legendary Rhone region are wonderful – and here’s one that stands out from the pack as really special.
The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes (78% Grenache and the rest Syrah and Mourvedre) is made from 60- to 120-year-old vines.
It has a rich plum/purple hue with aromas of incense, crushed pepper, cedar, black currant jam, licorice, and sweet cherries. This well textured wine is vibrant, well-formed and has moderately high tannins.
It is a sexy, ready-to-drink wine that will thrill any wine lover.
Cost is about $40-60.
