Graffiti artists take over Luxury ME London Hotel

A concept meant to bring street art indoors has transformed the soaring marble walls of the luxury ME London Hotel into a nine-storey tall graffiti mural.

Organized by Street Art London, five internationally renowned Italian, British, South African and Spanish street artists have collaborated on the project “Outside In,” being given carte blanche to take over the normally stark, 30-meter tall marble walls of the hotel atrium with spray cans and brushes.

Among some of the star artists is Thierry Noir, described as the ‘forerunner’ of the modern street art movement. One of Noir’s legacies, for example, was tagging the Berlin Wall throughout the 1980s in an attempt to “make it ridiculous, and ultimately, to help destroy it,” says Street Art London. Since, his artwork has been associated with symbols of freedom.

An art projection will also be shown daily between 3pm and 8pm on the first floor hotel atrium.

The same group has also collaborated with London restaurant Tramshed, presenting an exhibit of street art from RUN and Dscreet at the Cock ‘n’ Bull gallery beneath the restaurant. “A Foot in the Door” runs until July 25.

“Outside In” ends August 10. Fans of street art can also participate in weekly tours with Street Art London, which hits the streets of East London Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. More information is available at http://streetartlondon.co.uk/tours/.
