Scottish Highland distillery Glen Garioch was closed in 1995 after almost 200 years of operation. The distillery produced well-received lightly peated, smokey single-malk whiskies. Thus, we now have the release of one of the last distillations of the brand – the 1994 vintage.
The Glen Garioch 1994 vintage was aged 17 years in ex-bourbon oak barrels. Only 3,000 of these bottles will be sold in the United States.
The cost is about $100.
As a note, Glen Garioch was reopened in 1997 after being purchased by Suntory of Japan. But the brand does not dry its malt with peat. The result is that the smokiness that was common in Glen Garioch whiskey is gone.
