George Harrison’s guitar was sold at auction for $657,000. The guitar is a 1962 Rickenbacker, which Harrison bought in 1963 from Fenton’s Music store in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Harrison was visiting his sister when he bought it.
The guitar was reportedly used by Harrison on some of the Beatles early hits, including “I Wanna Hold Your Hand.”
Harrison is famous for penning Beatles’ hits such as “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” and “Here Comes the Sun.”
Harrison had a long solo career after the demise of the Beatles. He died in 2001 from lung cancer at age 58.
The sale was part of a rock ‘n’ roll memorabilia auction, conducted by Julien’s Auctions, and held at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York City.
