Genesis Gives Serves Up Opportunity with Washington Tennis & Education Foundation

Luxury is often measured by craftsmanship, performance, and design. But the world’s most respected luxury brands understand that their greatest legacy is built not in the showroom—but in the communities they serve.

That philosophy was on full display as Genesis Motor America, through its charitable initiative Genesis Gives, partnered with the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation (WTEF) to invest in the next generation of leaders, both on and off the tennis court.

Held at the WTEF facility in  nation’s capital, the event brought together Genesis executives, local retailer leadership, WTEF staff, coaches, and dozens of enthusiastic young campers for a morning centered on opportunity, education, and the lifelong lessons sports can teach.

Luxury Begins with Respect

Welcoming the students was Mark Maranzana, Regional General Manager for the Eastern and Mid-Atlantic Region of Genesis Motor America.

While many know Genesis for its award-winning luxury vehicles, Maranzana reminded the audience that the company’s mission extends well beyond engineering exceptional automobiles.

Genesis refers to every customer as ‘Son-nim,’ a Korean expression meaning ‘honored guest.’ It’s a philosophy that defines the ownership experience and reflects the respect the brand strives to show every individual it serves.

That same spirit of respect also guides Genesis Gives, the company’s corporate social responsibility initiative dedicated to supporting communities through education, youth development, sports, and the arts.

“Our vehicles are designed around performance and athletic elegance,” Maranzana explained. “Supporting organizations that help young people develop confidence, discipline, and brighter futures is a natural extension of who we are as a brand.”

A Dealer Who Practices What He Preaches

Representing the retailer network was Kevin Reilly, owner and president of Alexandria Hyundai / Genesis of Alexandria and is a Board Member Genesis Inspiration Foundation and vice chair for Hyundai Hope On Wheels

At the WTEF presentation, Riley’s passion for tennis proved every bit as strong as his enthusiasm for luxury automobiles.

A former Georgetown University tennis player, Riley connected with the young athletes by sharing lessons that have stayed with him long after his competitive playing days ended.

His message was refreshingly simple: focus on what you can control—your attitude, your effort, and your discipline. Those same qualities, he told the students, will make them successful not only in tennis but throughout life.

Investing in Life Champions

The morning’s highlight came when Genesis Motor America presented the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation with a $10,000 donation through Genesis Gives.

The contribution will help expand programs that combine academic support, mentoring, character development, and athletic instruction for young people throughout the Washington, D.C., region. WTEF offers many programs, including tennis-based programming starting as early as 2 years old.

Accepting the check on behalf of WTEF, Chief Executive Officer Candace Smith thanked Genesis Gives for believing in the organization’s mission and, more importantly, in the students themselves. The message resonated throughout the event: there are people beyond your family, beyond your teachers, and beyond your coaches who believe in your future.

More Than a Game

The Washington Tennis & Education Foundation has long understood that tennis is simply the vehicle. The destination is confidence.

The sport teaches discipline, resilience, focus, perseverance, and respect—qualities that remain long after the final point is played.

As the students prepared to take the court, there was an unmistakable sense that the morning had become about something much larger than tennis. It had become a celebration of possibility.

Genesis continues to distinguish itself by pairing world-class design, innovative technology, and exceptional customer experiences with meaningful investments in the communities where it operates.

Programs like Genesis Gives demonstrate that corporate citizenship is not simply about writing checks. It’s about creating partnerships that open doors, inspire young people, and strengthen communities.

Watching the smiles on the students’ faces as they grabbed racquets and hurried onto the courts, it was clear that the day’s greatest achievement wasn’t measured in horsepower, craftsmanship, or luxury appointments.

It was measured in confidence.

And that’s an investment that will continue paying dividends long after the final tennis ball is struck.
