The Fashion Week rumors were right: John Galliano is making a comeback.
Galliano, one of the industry’s most acclaimed and notorious designers, has certainly been under the radar since his dismissal from Dior and his own signature label in 2011, but he is finally making a celebrated return to fashion.
Maison Martin Margiela parent company Only the Brave (OTB) confirmed Monday morning via WWD that Galliano would be taking over creative direction of the French fashion house, designing couture as well as men’s and women’s ready to wear.
Margiela has been designed by an anonymous team since its founder left in 2009. Its deconstructed look doesn’t exactly jive with Galliano’s past romantic, feminine designs, but, perhaps therein lies the grand beauty of this ultimate “second chance.”
Galliano’s first designs are expected to be shown in January during Paris Couture Week.
