Following its renovation, the Fitz Roy hotel in Val Thorens, France, has joined a very limited set of 5-star hotels in the ski resort town. The hotel is scheduled to reopen on December 14.
Val Thorens is becoming an increasingly attractive destination for luxury hotel connoisseurs. The ski resort town, which had just one 5-star hotel, the Altapura, in 2011, will soon be home to three. The Koh-I Nor will open on December 5, shortly before the Fitz Roy reopens just in time for the start of the ski season, on December 14, with its new five-star rating.
In the heart of Europe’s highest-altitude ski resort, this luxury chalet, at 2,300 above sea level, consists of 58 rooms and suites. The hotel’s spa is home to a unique pool extending into the mountainside. At the restaurant, although the name of the head chef has not been revealed, one can expect fine gourmet cuisine. The bar, with its large central fireplace, is bound to provide a warm and convivial atmosphere.
The hotel’s interior design is the work of Gilles Leborgne and the ID Associés firm. The hotel’s natural stone and oak architecture is complemented by comfortable and refined furniture, while the decoration, discreet and traditional, draws inspiration from traditional Savoyard styles.
