Nice review of retrospective honoring Isabel Toledo.
The Fashion Institute of Technology’s retrospective honoring Isabel Toledo on Tuesday night was packed with friends and fans of Isabel and Ruben Toledo, a fashion-world downtown duo. Francisco Costa, Narcisco Rodriguez, and Betsy Johnson mingled among the cross-dressers and exhibitionists, including a leotard-clad Joey Arias and downtown dandy Patrick McDonald in self-described Elizabeth Taylor eyebrows. It was a surreal scene and though I may have felt glaringly out of place in my conservative, double-breasted blazer, I couldn’t help but revel in the infectious joy around me. “A collective scream was heard all across downtown fashion land when Michelle Obama wore Isabel at the inauguration,” said fashion iconoclast Lynn Yaeger, a perennial front row favorite with her signature powdered face and dark, cupid’s bow lipstick, eyeing a black silk taffeta coat and dress on display. “There was one of our girls.” – From WSJ
