Though Easter is scheduled for 20th April, New York City is already celebrating the festival with the Fabergé Big Egg Hunt. The hunt for over 200 egg sculptors has kicked off from 1st April running until 17th April. All of the eggs have been exclusively designed by renowned artists, designers, architects and other brands. Strategically places at various locations covering all the five boroughs of the Big Apple, these eggs are laid to benefit the conservation charity Elephant Family and Studio in a School.
The world’s biggest egg hunt event will continue by putting all the eggs on display at Rockefeller Center from April 18 to April 25. Those interested can place a bid for over 260 egg sculptures on the Paddle8 website. However, the top 30 eggy-creations will be sold at a live Sotheby’s auction on April 22. Participants can play the game well by using a free smartphone app that allows users to hunt the egg sculptures. Contestants also stand a chance to win jewel-encrusted Fabergé egg pendants valued at $30,000 and $48,000.
The Ralph Lauren egg artwork (featured above) has been inspired by a Cowboy out of the American West. The American fashion designer has outfitted the egg with a ten-gallon hat, classic bandana, plaid shirt, jean jacket, rodeo belt, boots and lots of unbridled enthusiasm as it heads out to make new friends on the streets of New York City.
While Naeem Khan’s gilded creation on the left appears to be touched by King Midas, Marchesa’s egg sculpture is inspired by the concept of new beginnings. Named the ‘Rose Palace’ after Casati’s decadent residence in greater Paris, the egg has been gilded and encrusted with antiqued silver crystals and beadwork, four glass crystal roses each unique in design and a mixture of foliage and emblems reminiscent of royal regalia.
American fashion photographer, Bruce Weber, has made a collage of images of his favored muse Kate Moss. This one will crack with the highest bid attempts by Kate Moss fans. While Tommy Hilfiger’s design reflects the freedom, optimism and irreverent take on classic design that is the touchstone of the Tommy Hilfiger brand, it captures a sophisticated take on clean-lined American style.
The all-chocolate egg by Carter Jones for Jaques Torres depicts iconic scenes and landmarks of New York City. Weighing 100 pounds, the edible highlights include the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge, Empire State Building and Rockefeller Center. Martha Stewart is renowned as one of the world’s most trusted lifestyle teacher and expert. But her egg creation is far from what was expected from her. The gilded creation is fabricated out of wood, metal and fiberglass and takes the shape of a cage made of twigs and net holding an egg with a bird perched inside it
The Elephant Family helps to save the endangered Asian elephant and its habitat while the Studio in a School is a program that exposes New York City public school students to visual arts.
