Dreaming of columned porches and Southern style? The Dunleith Historic Inn of Natchez, Mississippi for sale. The property, which is listed as a National Historic Landmark, is the only fully columned antebellum mansion in Mississippi.
Restored in 2012 and currently home to an inn and a restaurant , the Inn does a brisk business in weddings (over 35 a year), partly due to its scenic beauty. The sale includes the luxury inn and gourmet restaurant, contents of all buildings and garden elements. The property spans nearly 60 acres with graceful live oaks for added Southern charm.
The stands on the site originally occupied by “Routhland”, a house built by Job Routh and his wife during the late 18th century. Their daughter, Mary, a widow at only fifteen years old, took Charles Dahlgren as her second husband and inherited the house. In 1855 lightning struck a chimney, and Routhland burned to the ground. Dahlgren built a new house in its place in 1856, but his young wife died just three years later. In order to settle the estate, Charles sold the house to Alfred Vidal Davis for $30,000 who gave it the Scottish name of Dunleith.
The inn features 22 luxury guest bedrooms, an in-ground swimming pool, bocce ball court and croquet court. The historic buildings on the property include: the Greek Revival style main house with Tuscan columns which was built in 1856 with full porches encircling both floors; a three-story brick dependency on the courtyard that was formerly servants’ quarters; the Castle Restaurant & Pub, located in the old carriage house; the dairy barn building, which is now a guest house; the poultry house, now serving as guest check-in; and the greenhouse and garden outbuilding.
The sale also includes fine art and antiques on the property and eight historic Dunleith carriages (perfect for those wedding portraits). The property is full of period details such as ornately carved Carrara marble fireplaces and gasoliers (gas burning chandeliers).
It is available for purchase at $6.95 Million and for viewing by appointment through Peter Patout.
