Celebrated director Atom Egoyan was on hand at the 3rd annual Los Cabos Film Festival not only to premiere his latest suspenseful cinematography, The Captive, to a Latin American audience, but also to receive a prestigious Tribute Award at the event’s culminating ceremony.
Introduced by actress Rosario Dawson, who flew in for The Captive screening (in which she plays a lead role) and to honor the man she described as “evisceratingly smart,” “a brilliant writer,” and “an incredible communicator,” Egoyan accepted the award with brief remarks and humble gratitude.
“It means a lot to get this award this year, at this festival,” he said. “My films are made as an act of resistance. It’s difficult to make these works; it’s improbable; there’s great adversity. And this year, Los Cabos has proven the spirit of independence, because when the hurricane happened two months ago, I was sure this festival would be canceled… [Its continuation and success are] a huge testament to Cabos’ spirit and belief.”
