Defining Modern Luxury: A Conversation with Quattro Gatti Gin

Defining Modern Luxury: A Conversation with Quattro Gatti Gin

In a world saturated with opulence, true luxury is being redefined. It’s no longer found in the loudest label or the highest price tag, but in the quiet confidence of intention, the richness of a story, and the art of effortless enjoyment. This is the philosophy at the heart of Quattro Gatti. We sat down with co-founder Brielle Mordant to explore how a dream named “four cats” evolved into a tangible brand, how the feeling of an Italian summer is captured in a bottle, and more.

How do you define luxury in a spirit?

True luxury is about intentionality and restraint, creating something uncompromising in quality but effortless in its enjoyment. For us at Quattro Gatti, it’s not just about the liquid in the glass but the world that surrounds it. A truly luxurious spirit has a soul, a story, and a sense of place. It’s about belonging to a universe that feels intentional and alive.  Quattro Gatti is the kind of beauty you discover slowly, like the moment of pause during aperitivo hour in Italy. Understated, but unforgettable.

The story behind the name is instantly charming. What was the pivotal moment when the idea for “Quattro Gatti” transformed from a family dream into a tangible business plan?

Thank you! The name comes from the Italian phrase “quattro gatti,” it literally translates to four cats but it’s also an expression that means “just a few people” – it’s how Italians describe a small, close-knit gathering. Quattro Gatti has always felt like the perfect expression for who we are as a family of four founders but also what we wanted to share. Our gin is meant to be savored in good company, with your chosen few. But it’s also universal. If you look around at any crowded bar or restaurant you’ll see it everywhere. Small circles of friends laughing, connecting, being present. The turning point came when we realized that the spirit of intimacy, presence, and beauty in simplicity was missing in so many modern luxury spirit brands. When we started to realize just how tangible it could be to scale what started as a family passion project, that’s when the idea began to truly take shape.

The visual identity and brand storytelling are exquisite. How did you translate the feeling of an “Italian summer” and the concept of “four cats” into the bottle’s design and overall brand aesthetic?

When people think of Italy their mind often goes straight to the coast. But Quattro Gatti is an ode to Umbria which has an entirely different rhythm and palette. Umbria is known as Italy’s “Green Heart” and it’s completely landlocked making it rich, layered and a little mysterious. There’s a quiet sophistication there with deep tones, soft light and an elegance that doesn’t need to announce itself. Capturing all of this was key as we designed our identity  and packaging.

For Pursuitist’s audience, the serve is paramount. What is your favorite way to enjoy Quattro Gatti Gin?

Each of our expressions brings something different to the table. Gin Classico is our mainstay. It’s sharp enough for a martini, bold enough to hold its own in a Negroni, but smooth enough for a Gin & Tonic or to even sip neat. Olive Grove Gin was crafted with the perfect martini in mind. It’s our  more savory expression with olive forward notes. My go to serve is a Dirty Martini with Olive Grove Gin garnished with 4 olives – a little wink to our name and the belief that all good things come in fours.

Building a business with family is a fascinating dynamic. What is one key lesson you’ve learned about blending family with entrepreneurship?

Working with family has taught me that business, like life, is built on trust and communication. The key lesson for us has been learning to listen and to respect each other’s instincts as much as we do our own. Quattro Gatti was born out of shared memories and values, so protecting that sense of connection has always mattered more than hierarchy or titles. At its best, it feels less like running a business and more like extending the table by inviting others into something that started at home.
