The NY Times has dove into the wine business. They are offering a recommended gift section in addition to a snazzy looking wine club area. Wine clubs are nothing new on the web, but this option looks pretty good, even if it’s a strict e-commerce stab from the Times.
The Times gives you a ‘Sampler’ option ($90) and a ‘Reserve’ ($180). The initial list of wines was pretty solid – each is six bottles, 4 reds and 2 whites. Nearly all my wine geeks were happy with the offers, but I got several happy yells for the Domaine Bachey-Legros Santenay Premier Cru Clos Rousseau Pinot Noir, which is part of the ‘Reserve’ option.
All in all, a solid first stab from a respected source. This will likely be a trusted source for gifts in the future if they keep up with picking quality wines.
