Located on the Greek island of Rhodes, today’s dream home is a fascinating modern residence imagined by German architectural practice Hornung and Jacobi Architecture. Acting as a luxurious holiday home, the coastal property rises above the road, hidden behind an imposing stone wall. Cut into this natural-looking fence, the entrance hints towards the sleek design lines and simple but impressive details lying behind it.
Built for a couple who insisted on having a separate area for visitors, the contemporary holiday home is perfectly adapted to the existing topography, constructing private and social areas where family and guests can feel relaxed in a carefully studied atmosphere. The private home displays its prefab wood structure adorned with white plaster over the clear blue skies background, overlooking the azure waters beneath. By integrating the architecture in the topography, a fascinating merger of natural, creative and technological features compose a stunning collection of living areas.
“While from a formal point of view the building relates to the found eroded rocks and the washed away shoreline, the entrance was generated by an interruption in the continuous natural stonewall, which leads one at first under the site. Skylights show the path up to the main living area. The generated twist focuses our sight towards the ocean, whereas the surrounding walls only serve as a frame of the context. Thus a spatial division of the different uses was avoided where possible, as well as a differentiation of interior- and exterior spaces. Most important was to prevent a limitation of the magnificent view.”
