This home is set on an agricultural property in a conservation area in the middle of the beautiful town of Montagu, South Africa. It has 360-degree views of Montagu and its surrounding mountains.
This unique home was designed by Derick van Zijl and completed in 2013. The house is immaculate with lots of attention to detail from authentic Cape architectural details such as the splayed windows to the special pieces sourced and restored from the Blue Train. This is combined with modern amenities such as double-glazed windows through-out, aluminium window frames, underfloor heating and whole house water filtration system.
The house is north-facing and designed around a central courtyard with a pool. All the living areas and main bedroom are double volume. The large pocket doors open completely to create an entertainers’ dream.
The kitchen is large and well-equipped with features including abuilt-in Miele double door fridge freezer, a double oven Ilve gas/electric stove, a Siemens convection microwave, a built-in grill with extractor – a chef’s delight. There is ample storage space in this well designed modern kitchen with a large solid wood island with a Butcher’s sink. A separate scullery area is fitted with a Miele built in dishwasher and a pantry area offering additional storage space.
The kitchen opens into a dining room which can easily take a 14-seater table. The lounge, which adjoins the kitchen and dining room opens onto a large patio with views of the landscaped garden and Montagu surrounds.
There is a private wing with three bedrooms and three bathrooms (including the main bedroom suite) plus a private TV lounge. A guest suite opens onto the private courtyard. A large one bedroom flat completes the courtyard facing living areas.
A large oak fitted study would also be suitable for use as an office. A gym room (suitable for a home office or treatment room) and an additional hobby room complete the main house. The home features solid wood ceilings with wooden beams throughout. The heated swimming pool is entirely private with the surrounding courtyard and entertainment rooms.
Outbuildings include a garden shed and toilet plus a pump house for the automated irrigation. There is a large airconditioned building which is being used as a carpentry workshop but also suitable for craft beer makers / wine garagiste or perhaps an artist’s studio.
This estate is listed for 11.5 million Rand ($802,897) with Jawitz Properties, an affiliate of Luxury Portfolio International.
