Daily Dream Home – Arbour House

If you think that a dream home should showcase the beauty of wood, then the Arbour House on the Australian Bulimba River Reach would seem like a dream come true. Designed by Brisbane-based Richard Kirk Architect, the house displays a creative set of building methods that allow the interiors to be open towards the surrounding landscape. Split in two levels, the contemporary home adorns a 13 meter wide plot, flanked on one side by a historic arbor of fig trees and on the other side, by a public riverfront boardwalk.

Defined by the presence of an 80 year old Poincianna tree on the premisses, the Arbour House was adapted to suit not only a modern lifestyle, but also offer a luxurious yet respectful collection of views over the river and historic public landscape. The garden space shaded by the imposing tree constructs a comfortable privacy and was useful in designing the interior spaces. Opening towards the public spaces on the first level, an outdoor living space creates a comfortable connection between the green garden and the wood-defined interior spaces. Upstairs, shielded by the tree and the height, private rooms compose a powerful sense of privacy – what more could you need to call it a dreamy residence?
