$288,000 might sound like an onerous amount to pay for a car. But with the eye-popping McLaren 720S from the marque’s Super Series writing the check would be a privilege.
Equipped with a 710-hp twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 that rockets it from zero to 60 mph in just 2.7 seconds with a top speed of 212 mph, it outpaces and outclasses rivals like the Ferrari 488 GTB and Lamborghini Huracan.
Not the sort of behavior one expects from a well-bred Brit? Well McLaren has been building some of the world’s fastest cars for a long time. It’s Formula One team is second only to Ferrari in terms of overall wins.
Their mission is nothing short of a “relentless quest to push the limits of possibility” and every McLaren model is a heady blend of exotic appeal, bespoke looks and an air of well-engineered exclusivity.
McLaren notes the 720S offers the “widest breadth of dynamic capability of any McLaren, from controlled comfort to extreme handling prowess.” It also resembles a great white shark, an inspiration for its designers, while the dihedral doors that flip up lend it a beauty that’s almost sculptural.
Don’t take our word for it though, check out the video wherein we piloted a dark blue example in Kennebunkport, Maine. And somehow managed not to give any onlookers whiplash…
