A perfect Sunday in New York might include brunch with friends or family, followed by a walk in Central Park or a visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Residents and visitors to New York can now start their perfect Sunday at Crown, an elegant restaurant on the upper east side of Manhattan which recently launched its Jazz Brunch with the Mimi Jones Band alongside a newly debuted brunch menu. The brunch is served on Sundays from 11:30 am to 3:00 pm.
Crown is an elegant restaurant is located in a beautiful and historic townhouse at 24 East 81st between Fifth Avenue and Madison Avenue, just steps away from the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Central Park. The townhouse, which is over 110 years old, features an light-filled glass atelier, a wood clad dining room and an extensive collection of art.
The soulful and spirited sound of the Mimi Jones Band offers the perfect complement to Chef and Proprietor John DeLucie’s sophisticated cuisine and the restaurant’s elegant atmosphere. Exemplifying DeLucie’s passion for music and creating food that is both memorable and exciting, the introduction of the Jazz Brunch and the new menu at Crown provide an unforgettable dining experience.
A native New Yorker, Chef DeLucie has been working in the heart of Manhattan’s culinary scene for twenty years. He was the Founding Chef of the Waverly Inn and owns two other restaurants in Manhattan, The Lion at 62 West 9th Street and Bill’s Food & Drink at 62 East 54th Street. Crown, which is in its third year of operation, serves dinner seven nights a week and offers brunch with live jazz on Sundays. The brunch and dinner menu as well as the wine list can be seen here.
“We have this great band, the Mimi Jones band, which is very contemporary and very cool and works well during the daytime,” DeLucie explained to Pursuitist. “This is something the neighborhood is lacking. We had a brunch before, but without music. The live music adds a whole new dimension.”
The band plays between the wood-paneled dining room and the glass-walled atelier. “The atelier is so lovely with the light shining through,” he adds. “It is like being outside. We thought we would have some music. Once people see the place and taste the food, we think we have a home run.”
Crown’s menu offers continental cuisine with an Italian influence. DeLucie’s trademark dishes highlight the stunning dining room and chic décor of the restaurant. The restaurant offers traditional brunch cuisine, marked by bold flavors and creative twists, using fresh seasonal ingredients. From the “Frisee Aux Lardons”—a poached egg with avocado, bacon, chive and cherry vinaigrette—to a stack of delicious Hazelnut Espresso Pancakes topped with whipped cream, the new brunch menu provides a variety of dishes in which guests can indulge. There is also a selection of the restaurant’s most celebrated offerings, including the Crown Burger and the Hanger Steak.
There’s a $45 brunch option that includes a choice of several entrees paired with chef selection sides and unlimited Bellinis and Bloody Mary cocktails. During brunch, guests are limited to a two hour seating.
Crown offers 80 seats in the two dining areas while the bar seats an additional 15. For private events, the restaurant offers a separate dining room that seats 26 on a lower level.
