The craft beer industry continues to expand in the United States. Every day there are new breweries and brewpubs opening across the country. Each new venture offers the world an experiment in beer making. There are a wealth of great stouts being produced today. To try and make a ‘best of’ list is almost impossible since there is such a wide array of options available. Therefore, the Pursuitist is offering a simple list of some tasty stouts for you to enjoy. We’ve stayed away from some of the more polarizing stouts, focusing on pleasing, full bodied brews that don’t shock (but aren’t afraid to push to the edges).
Rogue Chocolate Stout
Rogue is one of the finest craft brewers in the nation. Their Chocolate Stout is one of their best. It’s milky and chocolatey and creamy and gooey and full of awesomeness. Chocolate stout lovers will adore this smooth and sweet brew.
Deschutes Brewery Obsidian Stout
The folks at Deschutes Brewery hit all the right notes with this deep, dark and robust stout. Obsidian smells and tastes like a roasted, chocolately expresso – with just enough hop bite to cut the sweetness. Obsidian lingers nicely allowing you to savor the brew.
Left Hand Wake Up Dead Imperial Stout
We could have put Left Hand’s Milk Stout on this list, but gave the edge to their Wake Up Dead Imperial Stout. Made in the style of a Russian imperial stout, this brew gives you an inky black pour with an impressive crown of foam. Aroma: chocolate, vanilla, oak, and a slight fruitiness. It tastes pretty much like it smells.
Bell’s Kalamazoo Stout
A classic full bodied stout that is smooth, creamy and black. You’ll get tastes of chocolate, caramel and and molasses when you enjoy of pint of this wonderful stout. Bells Special Double Cream Stout is also top notch – when available.
