New on Pursuitist’s radar is this intimate, 39 room eco-friendly boutique hotel located within Costa Rica’s Las Baulas National Park.  Cala Luna Boutique Hotel & Villas’s mission is equal parts hospitality and sustainability; guests experience the perfect blend of luxury, consciousness, and comfort. Not to mention you’ll 99.9% see some of Guanacaste’s famous Leatherback turtles!

On property, we’re coveting Cala Luna’s new Lifestyle suites, eight one-bedroom contemporary living arrangements surrounded by lush tropical gardens. Blond teak furnishings and gray and golden hues complement featured Costa Rican art, which evokes a sense of calm and relaxation while integrating guests with talents of the local community.

Each of these rooms also has a double walk-in shower, a private patio terrace with garden views, and body-con architecture and lighting that you’ll just have to experience for yourself.

Most of the hotel staff comes from a farming background, with some even growing produce in their homes.  Cala Luna promotes these traditional agrarian skills by purchasing locally grown food, both for its organic kitchen menu as well as for an all new farm-to-table offering at the hotel’s nearby farm La Senda.

Dinner at La Senda is not to be missed!  The experience includes a farm tour (where guests will experience the origins of their meal first-hand), engagement with fellow travelers, and a tasting of seasonally selected dishes from Cala Luna’s head Chef Hugo Gonzalez.  You can also get yourself lost in one of the world’s largest labyrinths.  That’s right, a 2.5 acre nature maze is located at La Senda, and is available for and meandering and meditation.

In addition to the Lifestyle suites, Cala Luna also offers private two and three- bedroom villas.  Other on-site amenities include an outdoor spa, complimentary yoga and wellness classes, bicycles to explore the area, and sunset Happy Hours on the beach.
